BNI has played a very important part in expanding my business. I became a member in March, 2005. I ran a successful Buick and Pontiac franchise and originally thought that because I offered such a big ticket item that my success would be limited. HOW WRONG I WAS!
With different messages developed for my 60 second commercials, I was able to get a number of members to come and shop at my dealership and sell one car a month because of BNI. I was able to pay for my membership and increase the return on that investment TEN FOLD.
When my dealership folded at the end of 2006, I took a new position working at Classic Auto Group. Because our company had been in business for over 50 years, I had to spread the word that I was in a new position and could now offer any make or model to my customers. The increased number of franchises that I offered allowed my sales to increase dramatically every month. I received referrals from people that were ready to buy, not lookers and tire kickers that take lots of time with little possibility for a sale.
My chapter carried my cards and gave me three qualified referrals a month, spreading the word about my new position and that I could act as the decision maker on pricing. In addition, I visited four chapters and gave my commercial there. At each chapter, just by giving my commercial, I sold at least one car per visit and sold four cars to members of one chapter! I also got referrals from members of the BNI Leadership team, who helped me to spread the word to members of other chapters around the Cleveland area. I even sold cars to the Director and the Assistant Director for the area!
I have sold 43 cars and trucks to referrals from BNI, resulting in over $12,000 in commissions! I offer one of the most expensive products offered by BNI members and still have among the highest closing ratios from referral to closed business. BNI works!

I've been reflecting on the impact to my business since our TEAM LEGACY CHAPTER in BNI kicked off in April 2006. I'd like to share some information with you.
Since I joined BNI fourteen months ago, 30% of my closed business has come through Referrals from my fellow members. I know this is just the "tip of the iceberg" in terms of building my business.
As pleased as I am with my personal gains, I can tell you nothing feels as rewarding to me as when I can provide referrals to my fellow members and see how that helps impact their business.
The ongoing educational tools that BNI provides are wonderful, effective, inspiring and FREE! This is a benefit that I hadn't realized until after I joined. With the help of these tools I continue to improve my abilities in networking with others and recognizing opportunities to generate referrals for others. The first expense you incur is getting business cards.
The second expense you incur is in finding and joining a BNI Chapter.
A yearly expenditure of less than $400.00 that has provided a return of 30% closed business for me in fourteen months AND You get to meet on a weekly basis with other focused, like minded professionals that provide inspiration and energy for each other!

It was scary enough to go into business as a travel agent from my home rather than an office. To think that my only contacts would be my family and friends would have created a very limited client base. BNI has provided my own personal window into a larger community of travelers and non-travelers. I have met people from other professions that I never would have met without BNI. I have developed friendships and business relationships that would have been impossible on my own. I have joined other community-based networking groups, a local business association. It is helpful to get my name into the community, but it is insignificant compared to the power of Giver’s Gain and BNI.
